symptom

NetWare 5.x Server will not load.

Server boots with a list of Public Symbol Errors.

The server loads the STARTUP.NCF, then goes to a cursor.

Server will not load the LoadStages.

Volumes won't mount.

fix

The first NLM that loads when a server is brought up is the NWKCFG.NLM, which processes the SERVCFG files.  If the first loadstages are not processing then it is possible that the SERVCFG files are corrupt.  Delete SERVCFG.NBK, SERVCFG.000, and SERVCFG.TMP in C:\NWSERVER.   The next time the server is brought up it will create new SERVCFG files.

With a new SERVCFG file your server parameters will be set back to default.  These parameters are configured in MONITOR / SERVER PARAMETERS.
